 West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation Announces Scholarship Winners

The West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation has announced their scholarship winners for 2008. The Foundation gave away six scholarships for the 2007-2008 school year.  Winners this year were: Jennifer Kent of Halbur, Jodi Hugeback of Manning, Megan Croghan of Manning, Carrie Eischied of Manning, Amanda Halbur of Manning and Destiny Miller of Vail. Jennifer Kent is working towards a BA in human services and psychology at Buena Vista University in Denison. Jodi Hugeback plans to study nursing at the DMACC in Ankeny. Megan Croghan plans to study nursing at the Grand View College in Des Moines. Carrie Eischied plans to study psychology at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Amanda Halbur plans to study nursing at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Destiny Miller is studying nursing at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City.

 The West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation received 13 applications for scholarships this year. “Our scholarship committee had an outstanding field of candidates to choose from,” said Dawn Lorenzen, Executive Director of the Foundation. “I did not envy them. It was an extremely difficult process this year. I think they would have liked to give scholarships to each of them”

 West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation has been offering a scholarship program for a number of years now, hoping to promote health careers in our area. “The future of the healthcare industry is an issue that affects us all,” said Gaylin Ranniger, president of the Foundation Board of Directors. “With shortages in so many clinical areas, it’s important that our hospital and healthcare facilities are staffed with qualified professionals. We offer these yearly scholarships to encourage people to consider careers in healthcare.”

 The West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation is committed to raise, manage and grant funds to support quality healthcare and promote healthy lifestyles for the people of our communities. As a non-profit 501(c) (3) institution, the Foundation is currently working on several projects, including the upcoming July 12th Golf Tournament, in order to support physician recruitment and fund the annual scholarship program.
