Foundation History

In the mid-to-late 80’s members of the community met and decided that the best way to sustain the healthcare industry in our area was to provide a multi-physician clinic that could better serve the needs of residents

After much research, it was decided that the climate was right to start a capitol campaign to meet that goal. Therefore, West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation was formally established in May 1990.  As part of the articles of incorporation, an Executive Director was hired to oversee day-to-day activities and overall governance was initially provided by a 15-person board of directors.

The first capitol campaign raised $1.2 million to help build the Family Healthcare Center. The next priority was physician recruitment which continues to be an ongoing project to this day.

This first capital campaign project formed the basis for the Foundation. The mission was to enhance quality healthcare services in West Central Iowa. This mission continues today.

Since the beginning, the Foundation has been responsible for raising funds for physician recruitment and retention programs, for major equipment purchases for the Manning Regional Healthcare Center, for healthcare scholarships for local students, and for various community health education programs.
